Parish School of Religion (PSR) programs provide developmentally appropriate instruction and hands-on activities to draw children into our faith, enhance their knowledge, and help them develop their own spirituality. We will learn together, pray together, serve together and play together during each spirit-filled year. We have a wonderful year planned with a tremendous amount of activities, service outreach opportunities, faith filled lessons and much more!

Programs

Grades 1-8
Our PSR program for grades 1-8 provides students with a developmentally appropriate instructional and hands on program that builds and connects the foundation of our Catholic faith to our daily lives.
Program highlights:

      • Classroom: Instruction on the teachings and beliefs of the Catholic faith and how to apply them into our everyday lives.
      • Prayer services that celebrate liturgical seasons in word and music.
      • Service Projects: Several outreach projects will teach children about the need to give to others and the joy that comes from reaching out.

Sunday Preschool
Our early childhood SPS program is a fun and interactive introduction to our faith for young children from age 3 to kindergarten. This is offered during the 9:30 Mass on Sundays and meets in the parish center from September to May on the same days as the Sunday PSR programs (see above). Registration is required. Volunteers are needed to teach or assist, on a rotating basis. Those who enjoy sharing their Catholic faith and are comfortable working with young children are encouraged to volunteer.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Children in 1st through 4th grades are invited to participate in Children’s Liturgy during the 9:30 and 11:30 Sunday Masses. The catechist leader and children leave Mass and go to Brodnick Hall for an age-appropriate reading of the Sunday scriptures and reflection, then return to Mass for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.  No registration required. This is a great volunteer opportunity!

Sacrament Preparation Programs

  • First Reconciliation & First Communion
Students in public schools preparing for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion must have a year of religious education prior to the year the sacraments are received; usually first and second grades. Catholic homeschooled students and Catholic school students must register in the PSR program and attend certain required retreats and sacrament dates.
  • Confirmation
Students in public schools must have at least the year of religious education prior to the year of Confirmation; usually seventh grade. They must attend all required classes, retreats during the year and complete hours of service. Catholic school students and Catholic based home-schooled students – attendance in class is determined by their school curriculum. • Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC)
Our Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) is a specific program designed to prepare older children (grades 3-6) for the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Reconciliation. We have been blessed with parishioners who have either returned to the Catholic Church after an absence or come from a part of the country in which the sacraments of initiation are celebrated at different ages than our local custom.  We welcome these new members of our faith community and endeavor to help these children receive any of the sacraments which they may have missed. The classes are offered through our PSR program; schedules are announced each year.  Registration is required.  Contact: Carol Lense 859.384.5100 ext. 1509 or email
