St. Timothy Pastoral Council Minutes
June 26, 2007
Present: Fr. Rick
Bolte, Fr. Jacob, Mary Brzinski, Jim Sholar, Jerry Beatrice, Rick Hoban,
Marin Smith, Larry Lense, Al Kovacic, Rick Harvey, and Randy Herbert,
alternate member Steve Lemberg (alternate) and John Gould (Finance
Council)
Absent: Jerry Grefer, Dave Shefchik, and Mark Dornoff.
1.
The opening prayer was offered by Fr.Bolte
and April meeting minutes were approved.
2.
Pillar Reports
- Finance
Meeting minutes- (see attached).
Rick Hoban
and John Gould presented a detailed report on income and
expenditures for the Fiscal Year ending June 30th,
and the projected budget for the FY beginning July 1. We are
expecting a net deficit for both years. Discussion centered around how to cope with the
projected shortfall, and possibilities for improving the bottom
line.
- Larry Lense
reported on last month’s Worship Committee meeting (see
attached). Most of the discussion dealt with the use of
DPAA funds.
- Jim Sholar
gave the Outreach Committee report (see
attached). Plans for the Yard Sale to benefit St. Charles
Academy in Zambia were discussed. The Outreach Committee has
requested that other parish organizations, including the Parish
Council, purchase tables for the sale. Other discussion dealt
with whether or not to start a chapter of the St. Vincent de
Paul Society at St. Tim’s.
- Marin Smith
reported on the Faith Formation activities for the month (see
attached). Registration for PSR for the next school year is
already under way.
- There was no
Community report for this month, but Mary did say that the
Vacation Bible School was a big success.
3. Jim
Sholar reported that 6 new families have registered in the parish in the
month of June. Much
discussion followed concerning the functions of the Regions, which are
in danger of demise. The consensus was to try to keep them going as a
way to get new people involved in parish activities. Fr. Bolte
suggested that we start small and simple, and let things grow gradually.
4. Mary
reported that the committee to choose themes for the stained glass
windows has been formed, and will meet soon. No other information is
available yet.
5. Pastor’s
Report.
-
Investigation has revealed that the proposed house raffle is not
workable for the parish, and is no longer being considered.
- Preschool
construction plans are progressing in a timely manner. Deb
Thomas has set periodic goals for herself, and so far is on
track to open for the 2008 school year.
- Dale Foley
has resigned effective June 30th. As of this meeting
the search for a new music director is on, and Fr. Bolte has an
excellent candidate in mind.
6. Election
of new officers and pillar representative assignments followed. In
tight races, all three incumbents retained their offices.
Chair - Mary Brzinski,
Vice Chair - Jerry Beatrice
Secretary - Randy Herbert.
Worship Committee - Al Kovacic
Outreach - Jerry Beatrice
Faith Formation - Marin Smith
Community - Rick Harvey
Congratulations to all on their “new” positions. A brief review of
duties and responsibilities followed. A lively discussion followed
concerning the merits of having a representative of the youth of the
parish sit on the council. Concern centered around what the actual role
would be, and how to handle any sensitive information which may be
brought up. The council agreed to think and talk about the idea, and
revisit it at the next meeting in August. In the meantime, the topic
should be introduced at the next STYM meeting to get their feelings and
ideas.
7. Fr.
Bolte introduced some ideas for next year‘s DPAA, including a permanent
sign to replace the temporary one, and/or a cross for the outside or top
of the church so that it can be recognized as a church. Dave Shefchik
“volunteered“ to form an ad hoc committee to investigate ideas and
costs.
8. Fr.
Bolte reported on the Diocesan “5 Year Plan“ to increase offertory
collections and replenish depleted coffers. 2007 will become the
benchmark year, and half of any increase in 2008 will go to the
Diocese. The same will occur in 2009, and then the greater of the two
amounts will go to the Diocese in 2010 Through 2012. In a related
topic, a diocesan task force is being created to determine future needs
for new parishes and schools for Boone County. Volunteers will be
solicited from all affected parishes.
9.
Mary gave a brief summary of the goals
from last year‘s All Parish Planning Day. Her column in the last issue
of The Companion is an excellent summation. The date for the
next event was announced as August 25, beginning at 9 am.
10. Jerry
Beatrice suggested that bingo might work as an excellent fund raiser at St.Timothy Parish. He has seen it draw excellent crowds at other
parishes, and wishes to look into the possibility further. Rick
Hoban
will help by talking to the organizer from St. Henry.
11. Fr.
Bolte gave his heartfelt thanks to Jerry Grefer, Rick Hoban, and Larry
Lense for their years of dedicated service as Pastoral Council members.
This was their last meeting as members, and they will be missed.
12.
The next
PC meeting will be August 7. Steve Lemberg volunteered to offer the
opening prayer, and Al Kovacic the closing prayer.
13.
Fr. Jacob offered the closing prayer, and
the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully
submitted,
Randy Herbert, Parish Council Secretary

WORSHIP
Worship Committee Meeting Minutes- May 16,
2007
Present: Fr. Bolte, Deacon Mike Keller,
Stephanie Schenk, Dale Foley, Larry & Pat Lense, Helen Baltz, Madeline
Bond and Michelle Alley
Helen started the meeting at 7 p.m. with a
prayer.
Worship Committee
- 10 people are discerning on May 20th for 2 open positions
on the committee
- Larry, Pat and Helen will serve until June of 2008.
- Madeline and Stephanie will serve until June of 2009.
- New members will serve until June of 2010
- There will be one alternate to replace anyone who cannot serve out
their term.
Parish Mission
Everyone enjoyed it. We had good crowds. Helen liked the music played
before the services, could we do this for weekend Masses? Dale feels
that due to the noise in the Gathering Space before Masses, the music
couldn’t be heard.
Leaves on the Tree of Gifts
- Some are asking if they can get a leaf made for the tree.
- The leaves were intended to represent
those who donated something extra for the Church, such as the
Crucifix or St. Joseph Statue.
Stained Glass Windows
- Some
people have been asking why we are buying stained glass windows instead
of paying down the debt with the extra DPAA donations.
-
Fr. said that if we do a Capital Campaign
we would collect a lot more money toward the debt than if we just ask
for it through DPAA.
- -
People like seeing the money go for a
particular improvement vs. just paying down debt.
- -
Could remodeling the Sanctuary (the pews
behind the Altar) be a possibility for next year’s DPAA? We have to find
something that the parishioners will get behind.
- -
By doing these improvements with the DPAA
we have more money in our general fund to budget toward our debt.
- -
If we were to build a new church we would
move the stained glass windows to the new church.
Baptisms During Mass
- People
are still complaining about having Baptisms during the Masses but they
are meant to be Communal Services not private. We are trying to limit
the number of announcements on those days.
Memorial Day
- Mass
will be at 10:00 am
OCP/ HYMNALS
-
Do we want to order the same number as last year?
Yes
Locking up chairs for Easter Vigil
- Is
there a way to lock up Brodnick Hall instead of moving the chairs to the
Youth Room so John won’t have to set them all back up on Monday?
- We’ve
talked about a gate but can’t seem to find a good solution to the
problem of closing off one part or the other.
Magazine Subscriptions
-
Dale will come up with a list of good
possibilities for the Worship Committee and bring in one of each for us
to check out. We’ll subscribe to a couple and pass them around the
Committee.
Next Meeting
Our next meeting should be on June 20 but
Fr., Larry and Pat won’t be in town.
We will meet on August 15 and the new
members will join us then.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
FORMATION
Sunday Morning Youth
All programs are on hiatus, except for the Children’s Liturgy of the
Word and nursery Debbie Froschauer and Deb Thomas rotate responsibility for making
sure the leader is present, things have been set-up, and all goes well.
PSR
Registration forms will go out with the June/July issue of the
Companion. A sigh will be hung between the supports for the parish sign
at some point in July reminding people to get their students registered.
Two Sunday classes
for each grade level will be made available this year, to address the
issue of lack of space on Mondays and Wednesdays and scheduling
conflicts of some of the students due to extra-curricular activities.
STYM
As I write this report we are a day away from leaving for the
Mission Trip to Mississippi. I hope to report upon our return that all
went beautifully.
Numbers in the youth group continue to grow, thanks to the great
leadership of Charlotte Boemker and Mary Brzinski.
Adult Faith
Formation
The adult faith formation programs still operating during summer
months include Friday scripture study by Fr. Bolte, Month of Sundays
available online, Tapping Into Theology in August, Women’s prayer
group, and Men’s group. The kiosk has been updated to reflect these
things.
