St. Timothy Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes
February 5, 2008

Present:  Fr. Rick Bolte, Dave Shefchik, Jim Sholar, Jerry Beatrice, Al Kovacic, Rick Harvey, John Gould, Mark Dornoff, Marin Smith, Deb Thomas, Randy Herbert.

Absent:  Fr. Jacob

1. Jerry Beatrice offered the opening prayer, and the December minutes were approved.

2. Deb Thomas gave a progress report on the preschool, and the signs are very positive.  The school is filled, and there are waiting lists for both 3 and 4 year olds.  The teachers have all been hired, and the construction is nearly complete and under budget.  In addition, the Kroger Rewards program has contributed over $1100 to date, and the curriculum is nearly complete.  The issues remaining are storage, moving the fire doors, and sometime in the future constructing a fenced in playground.

3. Pillar Reports

      A. John Gould gave the PC the income statement from the latest Finance Council meeting.  The parish continues to grow, and the growth is reflected in the contributions.  The result is that we are currently over budget on collections, and under budget on expenses.

      B. Al Kovacic presented the Worship Committee minutes (see attached).  Becky Herbert and Kay Schuele are compiling a list of duties for a parish wedding coordinator, who will be paid a stipend.  Marin Smith is planning a Seder meal for Holy Thursday, with room for 350 people.

     C. Jim Sholar presented the Outreach Committee minutes from the January meeting (see attached).  The STYM is planning another mission trip.  This year the destination will be New Orleans.  There will be a blood drive on March 25.

      D. Marin Smith reported that Chris Bruewer has decided on a career change, and has resigned.  The new DRE  is Valerie Bresiger, who began transitioning with Chris this month.  We welcome Valerie, and wish Chris good luck and pray God will bless her for all her work for St. Timothy Parish.  The Diocese is working on plans to certify all PSR teachers, and more information should be coming next month. (see attached report)

E.There was no Community meeting in January.  Everyone was too busy with the Dinner Dance, which went very well.  Who knew Tony Brzinski could sing?

4. Steve Lemberg reported that four new families attended the Welcoming event in January.  The next Welcoming Sunday will be February 24.  Jerry Beatrice and Lesley Duggan are working on possibilities to revive the Region concept.

5. Dave Shefchik advised us that no progress has been possible with the Boone County Planning Commission regarding an electronic sign for the parish.  The PC can recognize a dead end when it sees one, so we are now pursuing possibilities and designs for a non-electronic sign.

6. Mark Dornoff reported that the stained glass for the windows is being shipped from Germany.  The target is to have them installed by Easter, and so far it looks as if the supplier will make it on time.

 7. Jerry Beatrice advised us that the storage space under the Parish Center will once again be organized, this time in three phases.  First, the area inside the door will be partitioned for the pre-school using fencing or shelves.  That should take place within the next month.  Next, the remainder of the area will be cleared out again, and this time unused items will be discarded.  Finally, the remaining area will be divided for use by the various parish agencies and committees.  Hopefully, all this activity will enable us to keep the area more organized and usable.

8. Pastor’s Report.

Fr. Bolte has received a request to bring to St. Tim’s a healer who has been to other parishes in Northern Kentucky.  He is considering it.

9. The next PC meeting will be March 4th.  Randy Herbert volunteered to offer the opening prayer, and Jim Sholar the closing prayer.

10.   Al Kovacic offered the closing prayer, and the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Randy Herbert

Worship Committee Meeting:  January 16, 2008

Present:  Fr. Bolte, Helen Baltz, Kelly Stuckenschneider, Peggy Lemberg, Becky Herbert, Mike Keller, Dolly Holzwarth, Stephanie Schenk, Pat & Larry Lense, Ross Kelch, Katie Barton, Al Kovacic, Madeline Bond and Michelle Alley.

We started with a prayer at 7:00 pm with a prayer

OLD BUSINESS

Christmas Masses:

Worked well, having the doors to Brodnick Hall locked no chairs were brought up. 4:30 Mass was out the doors. Gathering Space was full. The rest of the Masses were full but no one was standing.

Christmas Card:

The picture wasn’t very good. The designer tried a special effect to make it look like a painting but it just came out looking blurry.

Handicapped Seating:

We will listen for any comments by the handicapped to see what they would like as far as seating in the church.

Music:

Ross is now playing at the 4:30 Masses. The piano isn’t mic’d so the guitar sounds a little loud. Katie and Ross will work on this. The Cantor should be a little louder according to Fr. Bolte. Ross would like a copy of the petitions before Mass so he can see how long they are and be ready to start “O God Hear Us” when each is done. Fr. will make a copy for Katie and Ross each weekend.

Katie would also like a monitor for the piano (a speaker to hear how it sounds in the church).

Dolly wondered why the page number isn’t given before the Responsorial Psalm. Katie felt it would be distracting to announce this at that point in the Mass.

The Young in Spirit Seniors wonder why we don’t use misslettes? Fr. explained that the readings are the Proclaimed Word and should be listened to and not read.

Wedding Coordinator:

We need to come up with a list of duties. Becky and Kay are working on this but the Holidays delayed the process. The Coordinator(s) would receive a stipend. We would like to have more than one in case someone can’t be there. What about Mass Assistants and Eucharistic Ministers? The coordinator would be the Mass Assistant and the Ministers are usually asked by the couple.

Katie and Michelle are still working on the checklists for visiting priests.

NEW BUSINESS

Ash Wednesday:
Masses are at 6:30, 10 and 7.

Ashes are all ready here. Ashes will be distributed after the homily by the bread distributors.

Michelle will have the sign up sheet in the Sacristy this weekend. We need: 2b and 2c for 6:30; 4b and 4c for 10; and 6b and 6c for 7.

Feast of St. Blaise:

Because it is on a Saturday it is suppressed by the Feast of the Presentation.

Stations of the Cross/Fish Frydays

Stations will be at 7:30pm after Fish Frydays. We should announce this at the Fish Fries this year to get more people. No music is played for the stations.

Good Friday

No Fish Fry

Veneration is from 1-3, Stations of the Cross at 7.

Lenten Penance Service will be Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7 pm.

Palm Sunday:

Palms are ordered. Michelle ordered 1 extra bag this year. We will collect old palms on the weekend before Ash Wednesday. Larry and Pat will destroy them.

Holy Thursday:

Marin Smith is planning a Seder Meal for Holy Thursday, before Mass in Brodnick Hall we can only take 350 reservations and dinner will be at 5:30.

Mike Keller will find the 12 people to get their foot washed.

Servers will line up the chairs on the altar.

Clearing the Altar and Procession to Chapel of Repose – do we want a larger procession with more people? Fr. feels we wouldn’t keep the reverence needed if we have a lot of people parading thru the chapel. It is not meant to be a big event – it is Jesus disappearing from our presence we aren’t meant to follow Him. If we explain the meaning of the procession and the reason for leaving the church in silence, people will respect that.

Holy Week Schedule:

-Holy Thursday: 7 pm

-Good Friday: 1pm Veneration, 7 pm Stations

-Easter Vigil: 8:30 pm

-Easter Sunday: 8, 9:30 & 11:30

-RCIA: 11 adults and some children.

Need to order:

-3 more small bowls for bread

-Candelabras for Adoration (oil instead of candles.)

-New Monstrance

-New Ciborium matching the one we have.

Next meeting: Feb. 20, Madeline will take notes because Michelle will be out of town.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30pm.

Formation Report:

PSR: New DRE Valerie Bresiger has begun work. She and I are working together for the next month to acclimate her to the programs and the people involved in our PSR.

On January 23, Family Nurturing Center presented a Kids on the Block program as part of our required child protection presentations (every other year) for the diocese. It was well-attended. Many parents stayed to help supervise students and experience the program for themselves. While the students (and supervising parents) were attending the program, Marin Smith and I did a catechist in-service. I informed the catechists of staff changes and the need to explore working in teams to continue the creative work begun by Debbie Froschauer with her Fun-in-Faith and experiential learning experiences. Marin described her experience in taking the Catechist Certification classes offered this year.

STYM: Numbers continue to grow. The Ski Trip was well-attended and successful. The Youth embraced, and managed to raise a significant amount of money for, Food for the Poor, following their presentation here. The Youth Room has been painted. Gameroom-type furnishings of basketball, air hockey, and ping-pong have been donated. Refurbishing continues. The Youth will not meet in there during Lent, due to the Fish Fry.

ADULT FAITH: This month is another Parent-Required event for our PSR program. On February 11 and 13, we will have a combined Yahweh Café/Tapping into Theology on the topic of the Sacraments (a formational topic especially highlighting Matrimony, in honor of Valentine’s Day). The program will be offered during the usual PSR times of Monday at 7 and Wednesday at 5:30 and 7. All parishioners, not just PSR parents, are invited to attend any of these sessions.

In January, Sr. Juana of Cristo Rey parish, presented two Tapping into Theologies about the issues surrounding Mexican immigrants. Approximately 50 people attended the 1st and 35 people attended the 2nd.

There will be a Lenten Retreat Day, led by Fr. Bob Ross, this Saturday. So far about 60 people have registered.

Respectfully submitted,
Chris Bruewer, Director
