St. Timothy Pastoral Council Minutes
April 17, 2007

Present:  Fr. Rick Bolte, Fr. Jacob, Mary Brzinski, Jim Sholar, Mark Dornoff, Jerry Beatrice, Rick Hoban, Marin Smith, and Randy Herbert.

Absent:  Jerry Grefer and Larry Lense.

 1. The opening prayer was offered by Mark Dornoff, and the March meeting minutes were approved with one amendment.

 2. Pillar Reports

            A. Rick Hoban presented the Finance Council report which covered the current parish Income Statement.  One item discussed was the Dinner Dance.  Proceeds are lower than expected, and possible reasons were explored, as well as expectations for next year.

            B. There was no Worship Committee report for this month.

            C. Jim Sholar gave the Outreach Committee report.  The highlight concerned an e-mail request for help from a needy mother of four.  The parish response was wonderful, and her situation is greatly improved.

            D. Marin Smith gave the Faith Formation report.  The Parish Mission is April 21-25.  It has been well advertised, and all are looking for a good turnout.  First Communion was Saturday, April 14th.  Over 130 children received their First Holy Communion.

            E. There was no Community report for this month.

 3. Jim Sholar reported that a Welcoming event will take place Friday, May 4th, for all the new parishioners from the last year. The receptions which have been held one Sunday each month have been after the last Mass each time.  With the new Mass schedule, the reception would be later, and attendance might suffer.  The possibility of holding it after the 9:30 Mass was discussed and agreed upon.  There are still two Region leader positions which have not been filled.  Volunteers are welcome.

 4. Jerry Beatrice reported that the clean-up event for the Parish Center basement will be Saturday, May 12th.  Hopefully the concrete floor will be poured, but the clean-up will take place in any event.  The heads of the various committees who use the storage space are expected to determine what needs to be saved.  The measurements for the sprinkler system have been taken, but the pipe makers are on strike.  There is no definite date of expected completion.  Jerry also reported that Todd Baeten has planted a tulip poplar on either side of the entrance from Frogtown Road.

 5. Pastor’s Report

            A. The configuration of the classrooms and offices for the pre-school have been finalized, at least, temporarily.  The conference room will be divided to make offices for Chris Bruewer and Deb Thomas.  The fire doors will open in opposite directions in order not to block any existing doors.  The architectural drawings are not yet completed, and application for appropriate licenses are in progress.  Deb has created a budget and staffing schedule.  At this time we are planning a morning pre-school, with the possibility of an afternoon kindergarten in the future.  Fr. Bolte reiterated that the school should not be an end in itself.  Rather, the mission of the school should be to strengthen the entire parish, especially in the areas of community and outreach.  Parents, as well as students, will be expected to participate.  Marin asked if that idea could be extended to the PSR program.  We need to challenge parents to greater participation in the life and worship of the parish.  We will try to explore ideas at the next PC meeting.

            B. The footings for the new signs were poured, but were not correct, so they were poured again.  The bid to put the wiring in was just under $1000, since it must go under the drive.

            C. Nomination forms for the Pastoral Council, the Finance, Worship, and Adult Faith Formation Committees will be in the pews the weekends of April 22nd and 29th.  Nominees will be contacted for discernment, and will be informed what the jobs entail.  The discernment has not yet been scheduled.

            D. As an added agenda item, Fr. Bolte reported that St. Paul’s pastor wants to keep their old stations, so they will not be available for us to use.  The search continues, and there has been no response from the other people contacted.

 6.    Mark Dornoff reported that he is still talking to suppliers regarding stained glass windows.  Wendy Fleury and Kelly Stuckenschneider have been recruited to explore designs.  Rick Hoban said that the normal method for contracts is to come up with a design, then put it out for bids.  Mark replied that we can come up with the general concept, but we need the contractors help with the actual design.  Mark feels most comfortable with the company which does churches only, which is Cathedral Crafts of Minnesota.  Fr. Bolte told us that he has been informed of a gift.  If the parish pays for one window, a parishioner will donate the funds for the second one.  The next step is to see the results of the DPAA so that we have the money in hand before signing a contract.

 7.    Mary Brzinski volunteered to offer the prayer for the next meeting, which is scheduled for May 15th.  The executive committee is  scheduled to meet on May 1st.

8.    Fr. Jacob offered the closing prayer

Respectfully submitted,

Randy Herbert

Parish Council Secretary
