April Grant

The mission of this month’s recipient is to help individuals, families, and communities break the cycles of substance abuse, family abuse, violence, crime and poverty. Those helped are those with the least amount of access to services – the homeless, the indigent, the uninsured and the working poor.

Almost all agency programs are located in Northern Kentucky. To carry out the mission, they provide the following to Kentucky residents:

· Residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment
· Non-medical detoxification
· Halfway house services
· Assessments
· Homeless services and housing

Transitions has been around since 1969. Its newest facility, The Gratitude Center, a new 100 bed recovery center, recently opened its doors on March 9 in Erlanger. Its purpose is to help homeless or at-risk homeless men recover from addiction and obtain permanent housing. The center’s program addresses simultaneously, substance abuse and homelessness, two of Northern Kentucky’s most pressing problems. Our grant dollars will be used to help complete the needed furnishing for the new center including chairs, dressers and flame-resistant mattresses.

Our Outreach service project will involve parish volunteers helping with the “Heroes Game”, a fundraising basketball contest between local police and firefighters. The game will take place at Dixie Heights High School on April 18 at 7pm.
