This month's grant is for
the Mother of God Deaf Ministry. English is a
second language for most deaf people so picking
up a Bible to read it is extremely difficult, if
not impossible, for most. American Sign Language
is their first language and because it is visual
and not written, videos and DVD's are their most
effective communicating media. This month's grant
dollars will help purchase nine books of the Old
Testament and all of the New Testament on video
and DVD along with additional copies to establish
a lending library for individual or small group
use in addition to a DVD player, a laptop
computer for PowerPoint presentations, an LCD
player, and a table stand and storage cabinet for
use at Mother of God's Sunday Bible Study.
Outreach
Project
Our
Outreach service project with Mother of God will
begin on Sunday, July 27, when the Deaf Community
and their interpreters will join our 11:30am Mass
bringing our two communities together in sharing
the Eucharist. Following the Mass, the Outreach
committee will host a cookout and an afternoon of
social activities such as corn-hole games, ping
pong and others as we make a connection with our
faith-sharing brothers and sisters. The parish is
invited to share in this social event with our
guests from Mother of God, especially
parishioners who are hearing impaired, have
family members who are, or know sign language and
can interpret sign language. To plan accordingly,
sign-ups for participation, help and dessert
donations will be in the Gathering Space thru
July 20.
