Ministry of Outreach

The purpose of this ministry is to work toward fulfilling the social teachings of the Church by promoting healing, restoring hope and affirming human potential. We do this by serving those in need within our own parish and in the greater community in which we live.

In addition to the monthly grant projects, there are many programs throughout the year. For more information on upcoming outreach activities, click on the event name on the calendar to the right.

The Outreach Committee meets the second Thursday of each month.

St. Augustine Parish Center
Our urban mission is located in City Heights, a public housing community in Covington KY. The center's brochure describes the programs and services available as well as the many ways you can volunteer to help. Parishioners from St. Timothy volunteer on a daily basis to assist Sr. Ellen Eckerle CDP meet the basic needs of the families that live there. The parish’s support of a monthly grant of $500 and parishioner donations help the center to meet the needs of the families living in City Heights.  For more information, contact Sr. Ellen at 491- 4584 or parishioner Charlene Melihercik.

Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky (HONK)
HONK is a nonprofit community housing developer. The organization rehabs existing houses and constructs new houses on available lots making them available to low and moderate income working families for home ownership. Parishioners from St. Timothy have been involved with HONK for several years. Currently, the fourth Saturday of every month is designated as "St. Timothy's Family Day at HONK". Other individuals and volunteer groups work on a HONK project almost every weekday and most Saturdays. Additionally, donations of new or used building supplies and major appliances are always needed. HONK provides an on-site construction superintendent. Volunteers make it all happen. Several parishes are already donating their time and talents and have taken the lead in remodeling a home. Maybe St. Timothy parishioners could do the same! If you would like to volunteer your time, talents or materials or for more information, contact
Jim Sholar or visit the HONK website: www.honkhomes.org.

Hosea House
The Newport soup kitchen serves an evening meal every day of the week. It is located at 901 York Street, Newport, Ky. St. Timothy Parish is responsible for the meal every third Sunday of each month in the year. 10-12 volunteers are needed to prepare, set-up, and serve the evening meal at the soup kitchen. Monetary donations are always welcome to defray costs. It is a wonderful stewardship opportunity for you and your family.

Alternative Christmas

Is your Christmas List getting longer?
Are there more "hard to shop for" people on your list?
Help is on its way!

Each December, the parish hosts a unique gift store in Brodnick Hall. It is called an Alternative Christmas Fair and it offers alternative, unique gifts for everyone on your shopping list. Many agencies from the area will be here with their wish list of things to improve their program and meet the needs of the people they serve.  There will be a master shopping list that you can mark off the items that you want and then “check out” with one payment. For each gift you buy, you will receive a gift card to let the person know what was bought in their name. You will also receive an greeting card to give.  Gifts may also be purchased through the Parish Office until Christmas. For more information, contact Lois Lambers or Charlene Melihercik.
