This ministry plans, tills, fertilizes, plants, weeds, harvests, and delivers the garden produce from the Father Ruschman Garden. The harvest will be shared through our outreach program with Gallatin County and City Heights and other local agencies. The garden is named in honor of Father Al Ruschman, an avid gardener, who was at our parish in the summer of 2005. The garden, located to
the right of Fr. Bolte and Fr. Jacob’s house, will grow by 50% this
year. We will e-x-p-a-n-d the garden by adding more of what produced and
was well received last year and adding some new crop for 2008. In
addition to tomatoes, green peppers, onions, broccoli, green beans,
cucumbers, collard greens, zucchini and yellow squash, we will be adding
both red potatoes and sweet potatoes, mustard greens, turnips, corn and
watermelon. Of course, more crops = MORE volunteers. The success of this
year’s garden will depend greatly on the number of volunteers especially
for harvesting and delivery. Ways to Help: printable signup form (pdf) Planting: Spring planting -Sat. May 24 at 9am.* Garden maintenance: Hoeing, Weeding, Watering (as needed) Harvest: Monday-5:30pm & Thursday-8:30am (late summer and fall)
