Summer Mission Week

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS
June 21-25, 2010

Project Applications
Once again, we are looking to St. Timothy parishioners for work to be done during this summer’s mission week. If you or someone you know (a friend, relative or neighbor) has a home that is in need of repairs or improvements that would improve its safety, efficiency and/or quality of living space and are financially/physically not able to get the work done, consider submitting an application for the needed work to this year’s summer mission week, HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS.  Examples of work done during previous mission weeks include building and installing handicap ramps, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, flooring, insulation, yard work, building a storage shed, gutter repairs, house painting, drywall, hanging doors.

Applications are now available in the gathering space, in the parish office and on the parish website. The deadline for submission is April 21. Any questions regarding the application, contact Lesley Duggan (384-1100 ext.25 or lduggan@saint-timothy.org).

Volunteers
Volunteers of all skill levels will be needed for this year’s projects and will need to be 14 years of age or older. Youth who are 14-18 years old, who are not members of the youth group will need a parent participating with him/her. It is preferred that project volunteers commit to all 5 work days (7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.); however, if not possible, a commitment of fewer days (2 or more) will be fine, but the days must be consecutive. Parishioners interested in volunteering for onsite project work need to contact Lesley Duggan (384-1100 or lduggan@saint-timothy.org) as soon as possible so that skill assessments can be taken to determine the type of work we will be able to do during the mission week.

An idea of the type of project work we have done in the past: building handicap ramps, painting, drywall repair, plumbing repairs, small electrical repairs, weatherization, lawn work, porch repairs, interior home repairs. Whether you are a self-proclaimed handy-man or a professional plumber or carpenter, or you simply can do no more than hold a paint brush, consider being part of this year’s worksite volunteers.

Ways to support the mission trip:
A benefit to having a local trip is that it will give the parish greater opportunity to be directly involved in the mission week. The financial support of the parish through May’s fundraising events will continue to be an important part of the mission’s success. Parishioners will also have opportunity to take on support roles such as helping provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for the mission team during the mission week.  As the date of the trip nears, more details and ways to support the mission will become available. In the meantime, there is no time like the present to begin your spiritual support for this year’s mission.
