Elizabeth Ministry
What do Mary and Elizabeth, young families and ministry have in common? They all come together in a new program at St. Timothy called the Elizabeth Ministry. It is a program of women helping women during times of pregnancy, birth, adoption, caring for an infant and child crisis. It also provides support to those suffering the pain of infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, infant or child death, or failed adoption. The Elizabeth Ministry is based on the scripture story of Marys visit to Elizabeth in Luke 1:39- 56. The story presents us with two women who are pregnant in difficult settings. Elizabeth is too old to have children and has been criticized for being barren. Mary is young and finds herself pregnant and unmarried. The beauty of Marys encounter with Elizabeth is that both women find someone who understands them. They find someone with whom they can share the marvel of what God is doing for them. As they share their stories, they help each other recognize Gods will and the sacredness of their lives. We have many parishioners who have moved here from far away. Their families and close friends may live across the country instead of across the street, making frequent visits improbable and daily presence impossible. The Elizabeth Ministry offers women in these situations someone they can talk to about issues involving pregnancy and children. The ministers are not counselors; they are simply women who wish to help other women. If you
