History of St. Timothy Parish

The time had come for a new parish. Boone County was growing, as was St. Paul Parish in Florence. So in 1988, at the request of Bishop William Hughes, St. Paul's Formation Committee considered the need for a new parish. It recommended to the Diocese of
Covington that one be formed and that it be located on the Resurrection Cemetery property at U.S. 42 and Frogtown Road. In January of 1989, Bishop Hughes turned that recommendation into reality, announcing a new parish for the Union area.

Most of the founders would come from St. Paul, and so the members-to-be chose to name the new parish St. Timothy after St. Paul’s close companion. Father Edward Brodnick would be the first pastor of this new flock, and Deacon Tom Nolan its first deacon. In a letter to the parish from the 1999 parish directory,  Fr. Ed remembered St. Tim’s first Eucharistic celebration on July 2, 1989, at YMCA Camp Ernst: “It was a warm, uncomfortable day, but spirits were high and we felt that we were a part of something special.”

The Union Presbyterian Church invited us to use their church for Saturday evening Mass, and for the next several months, we came together there and at Camp Ernst to celebrate our faith, our dreams and the gift of the Lord present in His believers. Next came construction of our parish center, where we first celebrated on Holy Thursday of 1990.  Then, with continued growth in spirit and numbers, we broke ground on our current church building in June 1997. We moved in on Sept. 27, 1998. Building continued as a
new home for our pastor was built in 2001, Brodnick Hall was completed in 2003, and a major addition to the Parish Center was completed in 2004.

In June 2001 after 12 years, Father Brodnick left to assume a new assignment as pastor of St. Joseph in Crescent Springs. Father Mark Witte became St. Timothy’s second pastor and served as pastor until 2005.

Father David Gamm served as parochial administrator from January - June 2005.
Father Albert Ruschman served as parochial administrator from July - September 2005.

Father Richard Bolte became St.Timothy Parish's third pastor in late
September 2005.

We have grown from fewer than 200 families at our inception to more than 1,600 families. With that growth have come tremendous opportunities to spread Christ’s love. We minister to the sick; collect food, money and cleaning supplies for the poor; and prepare meals for families needing assistance. We built a new rectory, finished our church basement, and expanded our Parish Center. We bring our faith to children in Sunday preschool, sacramental preparation, religious education and youth ministry programs.

We celebrate Mass. We sing. We baptize and baptize and baptize. We adore the Eucharist. We confess our sins. We celebrate confirmation. We marry people starting out on a new life together and remember people who have left our world for a new life with Christ. We decorate our church and plant flowers around it. We gather to play. We gather to pray. We continue to write new chapters to our story.
