Parish School of Religion
Sacrament Preparation Policies
-
Children who wish to receive the
Sacraments of First Eucharist and Reconciliation (Grade 2) must have
completed a full year of religious education in the Catholic faith
prior to the sacrament year. If a student has not had the
pre-requisite religious education and is currently in the 2nd grade,
he or she will be enrolled in a first grade class and will receive
the sacraments the following year.
-
Children who are in grades 3-6 and
are in need of sacraments may be required to participate in our Rite
of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC), which meets on
Wednesday evening. This is a specific program designed to prepare
older students for the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation.
-
Criteria will vary for children in
grades 7 or 8 entering into our religious education programs who
desire to receive the sacraments.
-
Students who are St. Timothy
parishioners and attend a Catholic School will receive their
sacraments at St. Timothy Parish. These students are required to
register and attend the PSR sacrament preparation classes and/or
retreats on required dates.
This is a Diocesan policy.
